artist statement
My work involves exploring and understanding trauma cycles within the family unit, inherited mental and chronic illnesses, and how they perpetuate themselves. I create large soft sculpture installations of abstracted animals representing various family members. I'm also interested in the parallels between the concept of masking, which involves suppressing characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorder, and the camouflaging tactics used by animals in their natural habitats. Through my work, I invite the audience to sit with and interact with my silly sad family, encouraging them to revisit their own family narratives.
